Genetic Design and Engineering Center (GDEC)

The Genetic Design and Engineering Center (GDEC) is the first CPRIT-funded Core Facility at Rice University.  GDEC provides comprehensive services in DNA design, high-throughput cloning, validation, and sequencing. Equipped with advanced automation platforms, including liquid handlers and colony pickers alongside a suite of next-generation sequencers, GDEC empowers academic researchers to conduct cutting-edge research and discovery at scales traditionally reserved for industry. The services GDEC offers include fee-for-service cloning, design consultation for DNA constructs, walk-up instrument use, and large-scale design and cloning to enable multi-investigator or multi-institutional projects. By working with labs at Rice, in the Texas Medical Center, and beyond, GDEC aims to catalyze high-impact cancer research and development of new molecular cancer therapies.
