Animal Care and Use Program (IACUC)
Rice University is committed to the humane care and use of animals in research, testing, education, and training, as described in the university’s policy and reflected in its Assurance with the Office of Laboratory Animal Welfare (D16-00005) and registration with the United States Department of Agriculture (74-R-0031). Rice has maintained program accreditation from AAALAC International (#001676) since 2017 because of its high standards for animal care and use and commitment to animal welfare in science. The Executive Vice President for Research serves as the Institutional Official and has assigned programmatic responsibilities to the Office of Research Integrity. The program is dedicated to a strong partnership between members of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), the Attending Veterinarian, the Animal Research Facility, faculty, and lab personnel. This partnership is facilitated by the Animal Research Facility Faculty Advisory Committee which ensures open and transparent communication between these important stakeholders.
