Biomaterials research has played a significant role in the development of new medical innovations and research at Rice University and the surrounding Texas Medical Center community. Developments in areas such as 3D printed medical devices, biofabricated tissue engineering scaffolds, and biodegradable electrospun meshes provide a basis for future clinical treatments. These innovations have the capability to disrupt the current medical industry by providing novel solutions to historical challenges in patient health. The Biomaterials Lab hopes to provide a resource for research collaborators, inventors, and entrepreneurs to accelerate their biomaterials-related work, while pursuing the next steps toward breakthroughs, translation, and commercialization.
