Engineering Solutions in Surgery Joint Seed Grant Program

The Award:

Rice University ENRICH and Baylor College of Medicine DeBakey Department of Surgery INSTINCT are accepting applications for seed grant support in our ongoing, joint Engineering Solutions in Surgery Seed Grant Program.
This collaborative initiative aims to bolster innovation and strengthen partnerships between Rice University and Baylor College of Medicine, with a focus on pushing the boundaries of surgical research and education.

The seed grants should lead to self-sustaining, nationally competitive research programs that will address critically important problems related to surgery. It is expected that recipients of the seed grants will submit an extramural grant application related to the seed grant project.

Proposal and award timeline:

  • Applications are due on or before Monday, June 10, 2024
  • Proposals selected for funding will be announced by July 1, 2024
  • The award period begins on July 1, 2024 and ends on June 30, 2025 with a project mid-term report due February 28, 2025.

Fund Information:

  • It is expected that 2 seed grants will be awarded in 2024 depending on the quality of the proposals and fit to the mission of the program.
  • The total amount requested in a given proposal cannot exceed $50,000 in direct costs.
  • All proposals will have a planned duration not to exceed 12 months.
  • IRB and other relevant compliance approvals are required before funds will be released.
