About the scholarships

The American Water Works Association offers numerous scholarships for both master’s- and doctoral-level graduate students.  To view descriptions of all scholarships, go to the list of AWWA Scholarships.

AECOM ($5,000)

Student pursuing a graduate engineering degree in onnovative solutions to improve drinking water in urban communities.

American Water Scholarship ($5,000)
  • Student must be pursuing a graduate degree (master’s or doctoral) and interested in service to the water industry.
ARCADIS Scholarship ($5,000)
  • Student must be pursuing a graduate degree (master’s or doctoral) in the water science field with intent to pursue a career in this industry.
HDR/Henry “Bud” Benjes Scholarship ($5,000)
  • Student must be pursuing a master’s degree in the water science field.
Bryant L. Bench Scholarship ($10,000)
  • Student must be pursuing a graduate degree (master’s) and interested in developing innovative solutions to the world’s water challenges.
Dave Caldwell Scholarship ($5,000)
  • Student must be a female and/or minority pursuing a graduate degree (master’s or doctoral) with a demonstrated ability to provide leadership in applied research and consulting in the drinking water field.
Thomas R. Camp Scholarship ($5,000)
  • Student must be pursuing a graduate degree (master’s or doctoral) in applied research in the drinking water field.
Holly A. Cornell Scholarship ($7,500)
  • Be an outstanding female and/or minority master’s student in pursuit of advanced training in the field of water supply and treatment.
Hazen and Sawyer Scholarship ($5,000)
  • Student must be pursuing a master’s degree in the water science field.
HDR One Water Institute Scholarship ($10,000)
  • Graduate student must be working toward a degree and to conduct research in the water science field.
Jacobs/CH2M Holly A. Cornell Scholarship ($10,000)
  • Encourages and supports outstanding female and/or minority students pursuing advanced training in the field of water supply and treatment. 
Larson Aquatic Research Scholarship ($5,000 for Master's, $7,000 for doctoral)
  • Student must be interested in a career in the fields of corrosion control, treatment and distribution of domestic and industrial water supplies, aquatic chemistry, and/or environmental chemistry.
Mueller Continuing Education Scholarship ($5,000)
  • Student must be a current utility employee seeking an initial undergraduate degree in the field of water treatment.
Neptune Technology Group Scholarship ($5,000)
  • Student must be seeking an undergraduate degree in civil, mechanical, electrical, computer or software engineering.
Raftelis Leadership Scholarship ($5,000)
  • Raftelis aims to support and grow relationships with promising students who have an interest in becoming problem solvers for local governments and municipal water utilities.  Students who have a major in business, finance, communications, public affairs, economics, marketing, and government relations are aligned with the types of majors many of our employees have. 
Charles “Chick” Roberts Scholarship ($5,000)
  • Student must be pursuing an undergraduate degree at a Pennsylvania college or university in the water science field.
Stantec Scholarship ($5,000)
  • Assists a student enrolled in a research-based program (Masters or Ph.D.) in the area of water treatment science and engineering.
SUEZ / Vernon D. Lucy III Scholarship ($5,000)
  • Provides for an undergraduate student seeking a degree in science or engineering and of his mentorship to young industry professionals.
Woodward & Curran Scholarship ($5,000)
  • Supports a female or minority student seeking a master’s degree in engineering.
