Process
- 01 - Identification
-
ORD and OCFR will find and account for all of their respective limited submission funding opportunities, as well as maintain any federal or corporate and foundation relationships and communication.
- 02 - Posting
-
OCFR and ORD will create the necessary competitions in InfoReady. As time permits, and to give PIs enough time to prepare proposals, internal competitions will be scheduled to conclude approximately:
● 1-3 months before the funder deadline for full proposals
● 2 weeks to 1 month before the funder deadline for white papers, letters of intent, pre-proposals, etc. - 03 - Receive Applications
-
OCFR and ORD will collect applications (consisting of two-page pre-proposal, one-page lay executive summary, and biosketches for all PIs involved) from faculty members, and review that each applicant meets proposal eligibility requirements.
- 04 - Lead Reviewer” Selection
-
To leverage the expertise of the committee across highly specialized and technical research areas, Lead Reviewers will provide a substantive assessment of an application’s merits both a.) to inform committee members who are outside of the research field and b.) to provide relevant feedback to the applicant.
As needed, the Applied Science Chair and the Social Science Chair will work with the Committee Administrator to identify members to lead initial reviews for their respective competitions. These Lead Reviewers will read all applications in depth, provide preliminary rankings, and make a brief assessment highlighting the strengths and weaknesses of the application as well as their rationale.
*Note: To provide parity in the selection process, the Committee Chair(s) and Committee Administrator will consider current workload and (in)frequency of participation when selecting Lead Reviewer groupings. - 05 - Full Committee Review and Discussion
-
Members of the committee not selected as Lead Reviewers for a specific competition will still read each application, but rather than focusing on rankings, will provide any qualitative technical and/or grantsmanship feedback that they may have.
The Committee Administrator will gather all preliminary rankings and qualitative feedback from the Lead Reviewers and distribute the necessary information for the rest of the committee members to be informed of the rationale behind the subject matter experts’ selection(s).
The Committee Administrator will also manage and set due dates, organize virtual reviews, and/or lead the Faculty Review committee meetings. - 06 - Decision
-
Once the committee has given their responses, the Committee Administrator will complete the InfoReady routing steps, tally the individual rankings, and announce the winner(s) of the competition. Should the competition need further deliberation or any tie-breakers, those will be discussed during the meeting or virtually via email.
- 07 - Finalization
-
All applicants will be notified whether or not they have been selected by the committee to move forward. OCFR and ORD will collaborate to share details of selected applicants with the corporation or foundation funding the research program, if necessary.
