Baylor College of Medicine (BCM)
Baylor College of Medicine1 is a private health sciences university in Houston, Texas, and is located in the heart of the Texas Medical Center, the largest medical center in the world. BCM’s mission is to create knowledge and apply science and discoveries to further education, healthcare, and community service; its vision is to improve health through science, scholarship, and innovation2.
According to its 2025 Fast Facts, Baylor College of Medicine currently has 4,115 full-time faculty and 5,190 full-time staff. Its physicians not only care for patients in the Texas Medical Center, but also nine other locations in and near Houston. Its physicians also provide instruction to a substantial number of trainees, which include 831 medical school students, 618 graduate school students, 273 health professions students, 1,083 clinical residents, 525 clinical fellows, 554 postdoctoral scholars, and 18 tropical medicine course participants. The College offers these trainees more than 100 Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education programs, with others in process, and more than 50 approved by the Texas Medical Board, as well as a plethora of continuing medical education programs, in which practicing physicians from around the world participate.3
In addition to providing exceptional patient care and training, Baylor College of Medicine conducts a considerable amount of research—research that advances progress in numerous fields. Indeed, in FY 2023, BCM received $687 million in total funding from 2,792 sponsored project awards. The College ranked #20 among all U.S. medical schools and #1 in Texas for NIH funding, and ranked #8 in the nation by the National Science Foundation for research expenditures in biological and biomedical sciences.3
