The Rice Office of STEM Engagement (R-STEM) supports and promotes Rice University's wide-ranging efforts to improve K-12 science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education in all Greater Houston Area school districts. We are proud to serve as the central point of contact for school districts, parents, students, nonprofit organizations, university faculty, and others in the Greater Houston Area regarding various STEM outreach programs and events at Rice.

Summer Program Prepares Under-served High School Students for Careers in Architecture

Launched in 2019, the Rice Architecture Summer Immersion program aims to diversify the field of architecture by providing comprehensive academic guidance, cultural enrichment and disciplinary exposure to underserved high school students from the Houston community.

Rice University’s Office of STEM Engagement and ConocoPhillips welcomed over 130 past and current participants in the ConocoPhillips Applied Math Program (AMP!) to AMPosium! April at the BioScience Research Collaborative. The yearlong program offers innovative strategies to science and mathematics teachers in grades 5 through 9.

R-STEM strives to provide quality professional development to K–12 STEM teachers in the greater Houston area. Since 2006, R-STEM has increasingly grown its program base and teaching staff to allow us to serve more teachers and students, and to continually broaden the greater impacts of STEM education as an integral part of K–12 education.
