Rafael Verduzco

Faculty Director, Rice Center for STEM Engagement (R-STEM)

Rafael Verduzco is the A.J. Hartsook Professor of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at Rice University and Faculty Director of the Rice Center for STEM Engagement (R-STEM). He leads an interdisciplinary research program focused on polymer science, soft materials, bioelectronics, and sustainable technologies.

A Rice alumnus, Dr. Verduzco earned his B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Rice before completing his M.S. and Ph.D. at Caltech and a postdoctoral fellowship at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. He returned to Rice as a faculty member in 2009.

Through his leadership at R-STEM, Dr. Verduzco supports efforts to expand and strengthen STEM education and engagement across the Houston community and beyond. His work is guided by a commitment to advancing innovation, education, and opportunities in STEM.
