About Rice Architecture Summer Immersion Program

Architecture Student working on design project

The Rice Architecture Summer Immersion program is is offered in collaboration between the Rice Office of STEM Engagement (R-STEM) and Rice Architecture. The program is designed for current 10th and 11th grade students who are age 16 or older and have an interest in applying to architecture school. It is a hands-on workshop that introduces participants to principles of architecture and design. We will test design concepts through several media and exercises in two and three dimensions.

The goal is to explore architectural space at a variety of scales, and to produce creative works that can be integrated in a design portfolio, a necessary component in the college application process for architecture programs. Participants will have the opportunity to interact with Rice faculty and current students, as well as practicing architects, to learn more about architecture.

Rice Architecture Summer Immersion is offered as a 13-day/12-night residential program for current (2022-2023 school year) 10th and 11th grade students who are age 16 or older from targeted schools in the Greater Houston area. Participants will stay in a dorm room and have a roommate. All campers will be in the same dorm building but will be in separate wings depending on their gender. Program staff members will be available at all hours in case of emergencies.Verify the program dates and expectations for the 13 day/12night session below.
