About the fellowship

The fellowship supports outstanding graduate students pursuing research with the potential to provide objective, independent, evidence-based knowledge and tools to meet the challenges presented by crime, violence, and other criminal justice-related topics. Quantitative, qualitative, and primary and secondary data analysis studies are encouraged. Special consideration will be given to applicants who use the most rigorous research methods applicable to their proposed research topic — such as experimental or randomized designs — to maximize the validity and reliability of findings. Qualifying disciplines include, among others, criminology, education, economics, political science, criminal justice, psychology, sociology, public health, family and human development, public administration, and public policy.

Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • Be enrolled in a fully accredited academic institution in the U.S.
  • Have completed all required course work.
  • Have passed qualifying comprehensive exams.
  • Be advanced to candidacy by the university.

Award amount

$32,000.

Award period

12 to 18 months.
