K–12 Student Programs

A joint effort with Rice Athletics, STEM-Letics Academy is week-long academy offered multiple weeks during the summer for current 3^rd, 4^th, and 5^th grade students. This academy is designed to keep students both mentally and physically active during the summer by incorporating STEM and physical activities.

Rice Computer Engineering Design Academy is a week-long program for current 6^th, 7^th, and 8^th graders to learn about Arduino, Computer-Aided Design (CAD) programming, and rapid prototyping.

Data Divas empowers female students grades 11-12 with a week-long immersion into the world of data science, blending comprehensive learning with hands-on activities. Guided by successful female professionals, participants develop essential skills, culminating in a collaborative team presentation to showcase their newfound expertise.

The Rice Architecture Summer Immersion program is offered in collaboration between R-STEM and Rice Architecture for current 10^th and 11^th grade students interested in applying to architecture school. It is a hands-on workshop that introduces participants to principles of architecture and design.

Precise Advanced Technologies and Health Systems for Underserved Populations (PATHS-UP) Young Scholars is a summer program for current 10^th and 11^th grade students to introduce them to engineering research at Rice University and its practical applications in the health care field.

In collaboration with Design Connect Create, these week-long programs offered at no cost to girls in 9^th–11^th grade from qualifying school districts (see page for details). Students complete activities together and get the chance to talk with guest speakers from a variety of fields.

This one-week student program for grades 10-12 aims to introduce the science behind crime scenes, covering topics such as evidence collection and classification, blood evidence, toxicology, DNA, and more.

iRIDE Academy is a hands-on program designed to introduce middle school students in specific communities in the Houston, TX area to the challenging and diverse field of engineering.

NanoAcademy is a free one-day workshop series for current 5^th–12^th grade students to participate in STEM lessons designed by experienced teachers inspired by the ongoing research at Rice University, Arizona State University (ASU), The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP), and Yale University.

NextGen STEM Scholars coming soon..

This series is designed specifically for 6^th–9^th grade students, teachers, and parents and guardians. All three series will take place during July and cover topics such as overcoming resistance to online learning, current STEM research at Rice, and applying and paying for college. These sessions will NOT be offered during Summer 2023.
